The Foundation seeks immediate
assistance in funding for the following projects:
1. The creation of the first Nôm dictionary
printed in true type. Each character will be entered in
the ISO Standard. The characters gleaned from our dictionary will
be computer accessible to scholars and librarians worldwide as well
as to ordinary Vietnamese wanting to know more about their cultural
heritage. This is a $45,690 project.
2. Nôm Scholarships in Vietnam,
both for American Ph.D. candidates including Nôm in their dissertation
work and for high school and college students in Vietnam who wish
to learn Nôm. $10,000 for the next 2 years.
3. An international conference on Nôm:
We have agreed to co-sponsor, with the Viện Hán-Nôm in
Vietnam, an international conference to take place in Hanoi in October,
2004. $44,800.
4. Our Nôm Na office. We have
created an office in Hanoi and have employed five university students
who know some Nôm with good computer skills. Our office has already
been approached by scholars in Vietnam and abroad who wish our help
in retrieving and printing ancient texts. We hope it becomes an
ongoing institution. $7,000/year.
5. Publication of two old Nôm texts.
We are committed to the printing of two ancient Nôm dictionaries
with the Trung Tâm Nghiên Cứu Quốc Học, The National Culture Studies
Institute in Ho Chi Minh City. $8000.
If you would like to make a contribution
